Introduction: Visit to the Forest
“A black rose? When was this received?” The royal guard explained the reception in as clean-cut a way as she looked: “Fourteen and a half minutes ago, regular delivery by royal mail.” The letter indicated it had been sent from the Blackthorn forest, a place people dreaded getting near to. The visiting guard had more to say: “We also received a black rose a month ago. In a week we lost that border town to the forest.” Both guards exchanged a meaningful but silent look. Their next move was as plainly obvious as their reticence; but there was no other choice.
The trip was shorter than expected. The forest had expanded much more than reports suggested and wildly beyond what they could’ve imagined. They left the core of the party in a town a few leagues from the forest and walked with an elite group of soldiers from both nations. They were prepared for everything, or so they wanted to believe. They certainly didn’t expect the ground to dissolve under their feet and melt their legs with sap leaking from buried roots. A few inexperienced soldiers were consumed whole, veterans tended to dodge the death-trap or sustain only minor injuries. It was just the beginning.
Tendrils lashed and broke their thorns against heavy, thick shields. Lesser quality metal didn’t resist the onslaught and caused the demise of some. The guards kept relying on their fleetness of feet but they could stay on the edge for only so long. Every tendril cut seemed inconsequential: they didn’t stop coming. With no recourse left, they decided to charge into the forest with what energy they had left. It paid off. Once they broke through the border defences everything was quiet and relaxing. Animals frolicked free and plants grew with stupendous colours. They kept advancing, lest they’d be noticed.
In a clear, quite a few paces into the forest, they found a dryad bathing under sunlight. She spun and laughed, capturing as much Sun as she could; with wings well extended. The survivors looked at each other in disbelief but it didn’t last. If they could believe what they just went through then this wasn’t much of a stretch. “Hello” the guards echoed and the dryad turned to see them. “Be welcome travellers.” Her beautiful face glowed under the sunrays. “We have a problem.” The guards explained the situation and the dryad listened attentively. She escorted them out of the forest and promised to investigate with the elder trees what had been going one. There was a hierarchy to be respected in the forest and someone or something seemed to be taking action beyond the desires and needs of nature. They’d have to trust the forest for now.

Hello! Have you considered doing ward skin reviews?
They are something we have in mind. They’d probably be closer to overviews as wards are much simpler than champions. It’s something we have in the to-do list among too many other things.
