Introduction: Back to the Box
“Are you going to listen to a rag doll?” Said the eastern king. “For a monarch you should know better how to properly talk to a lady.” Answered the tiny knight in his high-pitched yet, somehow, solemn voice. The King looked down on the Knight and advanced menacingly with his sword on his shoulder. “You dare speak to the King?” “Please calm down. We need to get back to the toy box soon or we’ll get in trouble.” The Doll’s voice was concerned but firm to which both King and Knight answered. Suddenly a large shadow dwarfed the whole group and they heard the loud steps of a heavy figure approaching.
The Robot looked at them, being more than twice their size he had gone on reconnaissance work, his expressionless face hid his disappointment. “Toy Box unreachable. Possible paths blocked. Potential paths too risky. Expecting further information.” “That doesn’t sound good at all.” said the Doll. The Knight filled his chest with air, though his plastic armour completely concealed the fact, and valiantly expressed: “I will clear a path.” “And how do you think you are going to do that exactly, Sir Valour?” The King’s mocking expression would’ve hurt the little knight but the Robot interjected. “I will help. Objective: Clear Path.”
The plan was to create a distraction: the Knight was the distraction. He stood just around the door of the bathroom where they had been left behind and the three other prepared for a sprint they would always remember. The Knight ran forward and rushed towards the house pet: a playful but overactive cat. The Knight stood in front, without weapons he knew he couldn’t escape but he could stare. Eye to eye, with fear crumbling his mind but an exterior of polished plastic he looked straight at the yellow cat’s eyes. The others ran towards the bedroom door. The Doll and King pushed. The Robot, having the necessary height, jumped to the knob and held to it, kicking in the air, until the door started to open.
The robot let go of the knob, landed and joined the efforts to open the door. He wasn’t really necessary as it was already open enough. The King entered with dignity but the Robot didn’t see the doll. He looked at the corridor and saw her running like never before. At the end of the corridor the cat had cornered the Knight and was ready to pounce. The Doll arrived just in time to grab the cat’s tail. Startled the cat turned and slammed the Doll against the wall next to the Knight. Being made of rags had its advantages: she stood up without a care. The Knight didn’t hesitate: he grabbed the cat’s tail and started to pull. The cat tried to turn but was unable. The Robot had grabbed the skin behind the neck and was pulling upwards.
With the cat subdued the Doll and Knight ran near the Robot. The Robot released the cat and it remained looking at them, analysing. They walked backwards, slowly towards the bedroom door, holding the cat’s stare. They entered and immediately the door slammed shut. They looked to the side and saw the King smiling: “Good teamwork, everything’s ready here. I have a nice path to the toy box and we are done. Now, if you’d like to follow…” He bowed in a most uncharacteristic way and then followed. Back in the toy box they looked at each other. “Let’s hope that we are not forgotten again in the bathroom. We can’t be venturing out in the open like this.” said the Knight. “Don’t worry, I think we’ll manage well enough next time.” answered the Doll.
