Introduction: Ominous Visions
The Knight looked at the temple of simple pillars and devoid of any decoration. More than a building it looked like a geometric shape. It had no personality but he supposed it did the job. As he walked inside he found that personality was, indeed, on the inside. Columns dripped tendrils and more hanged between them in a web-like pattern that almost looked organic. He moved forward to find the decoration only getting more life-like. Once he was in front of the door at the end of the room he could swear the building was breathing and that door was its throat.
He knocked and a man wearing a strange helmet opened the door. He looked like his head had been taken from a part of the building. “Welcome, I’ve been waiting for you, Knight. I am the Harbinger.” The Knight went in into a set of corridors that spread like veins inside the building. He followed the Harbinger closely, there were too many turns and it seemed impossible anyone could find their way in this place. “What is this place?” “This is what will happen if we don’t act. Don’t worry, there’s time yet to discuss it.” He was lead into a dining room where many people had gathered. He looked around: warriors, scholars, mages, and blacksmiths; it seemed like any role necessary to support an army was present.
“We have another guest, please welcome the Knight.” Some nodded, others were too busy to notice and a few preferred to think they were elsewhere. “Take a seat, make new friends for these will be your brothers in arms and ask around. I’m sure you will understand soon.” The Knight naturally gravitated towards the sector of the warriors. There were all kinds, from the roughest to the classier but all deadly; he understood that. He caught the conversation of a couple fencers, two very alike looking women. They were discussing the quickest way to dismember someone. They must’ve noticed his expression when the elder noted: “When the time comes, you’ll be glad you know how to.”
