League of Legends: Morgana Skins’ Review – StrategyZero
May 312012

Morgana, the Fallen Angel
Morgana, the Fallen Angel

Morgana, the Fallen Angel has specific attire preferences: dresses with ample skirts and sometimes, just skirts. Such an elegant angel should have a good sense of style and an exquisite clothes selection. To find out whether Morgana lives up to her distinct choices or not read further on her skins’ review.

Exiled Morgana
Exiled Morgana Splash Art Exiled Morgana Model
Category: Legacy
Price: 975 RP
Concept: Morgana as an angel before falling from grace but with wounded wings.
Model: New textures for Morgana and new particles for her dark aura.
Particles: New yellow particles for her auto-attack.
Animations: No new animations.
Sounds: No new sounds.
Splash Art: This isn’t a bad piece but it shows a stark contrast between the quality of the technique employed and that of the portrayal. A look at the background reveals that some attention was paid to the frame of the picture. Besides, the smoke is a fitting addition that adds an air of eeriness. Although the background has a good contrast with Morgana’s shining figure it lacks diversity and relevance in the piece. For all intents and purposes it’s just a plain dark night filled with some ruins. Morgana suffers similar inconsistencies: she shines under the moonlight and her skirt has multiple folds and textures but the perspective and depiction aren’t convincing. The oversized ears, the tiny face, the huge forelock plus the peculiar proportions of the wings and her own body make Morgana look strange, even alien. In conclusion, this splash art is the very definition of inconsistency: it leaves the viewer with mixed feelings.
Rating: Star clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZero
Conclusion: As far as re-textures go Exiled Morgana is quite pleasing to look at. Not only is the angelic style well recreated but the concept is also quite fitting and interesting. For instance, the bloodied wings present an interesting contrast to the pristine elegance of her skirt and blonde hair. In addition to this, the yellow auto-attacks reference her divine magic. However, as her abilities retain dark colours the general effect is rather inconsistent. Overall, it’s an accomplished skin that does much with little. Unfortunately, the price bears no relation to the quality of the skin. It would be a nice acquisition weren’t the price so high, especially considering the great quality of other skins at this price range. As it stands, it’s a high price for a nice but minor change; better left for Morgana’s most dedicated fans.

Sinful Succulence Morgana
Sinful Succulence Morgana Splash Art Sinful Succulence Morgana Model
Category: Legacy
Price: 975 RP
Concept: Morgana dressed as a cook from her Sinful Succulence bakery.
Model: Major model changes for Morgana.
Particles: No new particles.
Animations: No new animations.
Sounds: No new sounds.
Splash Art: This piece is a great example of a background being more than a simple frame. The kitchen is as important as Morgana’s depiction because her workplace tells as much about herself as her looks do. Morgana is neatly dressed with cook’s clothes and suffering a bit of frustration from a possible burning accident involving gingerbread men. Her expression is clear but not overacted which sets the piece apart from a simple pose.
In spite of the patch of black on the left the kitchen contributes just as much to the story: ingredients abound in several states of passionate or careless use. Because of the multitude of details working in tandem the piece as a whole becomes better than the sum of its parts. It tells a story about how Morgana cooks or about an accident in Morgana’s kitchen. Flexibility of interpretation is strength of the piece.
Small additions like Morgana’s hat being on fire and her clothes covered in dough are the perfect finishing touch. Sinful Succulence Morgana is an excellent piece that shows that without fancy shininess it’s possible to display a champion’s look while telling a lot more.
It’s only fair to say that the saturated colours make the piece a bit flat and that some elements seem sketched and unfinished; like the eggs on the left. On top of that the background is a bit too diffuse for the small difference in distance between elements. In spite of a few issues the piece adds up to more than the sum of its parts and so is definitely one of League of Legends’ best splash arts.
Rating: Star clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZero
Conclusion: Sinful Succulence Morgana is a skin that captivates because of its clever concept more than its actual execution. That doesn’t mean that it’s not well crafted, as it’s quite the opposite: the cook’s clothes are well designed and perfectly suit Morgana. Nonetheless, underneath the cook attire it’s the same Classic Morgana; this can be verified by the unusual choice of leaving Morgana barefooted under her skirt, even as a cook. Regardless, the skin taps into Morgana’s life outside the Fields of Justice and it could be said into what she actually likes. It’s the flavour of the skin that makes it more than just new clothes for Morgana and, in the end, makes the execution sensible; except for the lack of shoes. Therefore, Sinful Succulence Morgana is a great skin for Morgana fans that provides much more than looks. However, if you are simply after a new style for Morgana, there are more visually appealing choices; though their concepts aren’t as close to the champion as this one is.

Blade Mistress Morgana
Blade Mistress Morgana Splash Art Blade Mistress Morgana Model
Category: Regular
Price: 750 RP
Concept: Morgana wearing a bladed metallic dress and light armour.
Model: Major model changes for Morgana.
Particles: No new particles.
Animations: No new animations.
Sounds: No new sounds.
Splash Art: This piece is simple and straight to the point: it shows Morgana’s look and nothing else; at least what is does it does well. The background is extremely simple consisting of smoke and a few rocks but nothing is clearly discernible. Morgana is nicely depicted with special attention paid to the multiple reflections on the plates that make up her dress. The dress itself is quite a spectacle because of its complex design and different metallic textures. The lighting on Morgana’s skin and hair coupled with the pose and measured display of magical prowess make Morgana intriguing.
Unfortunately, the lines aren’t always convincing as if the perspective wasn’t precise. For instance her wings seem detached from her back and floating on a different plane. The main attraction of the piece is the complex design of her dress and wings but elements are inexact and there’s a certain drafty feel on the whole. In addition to this the limited colour palette makes the piece look too homogeneous.
Overall, it’s a nice depiction of Morgana that suffers from a practically non-existent setting that leaves her standing all alone with a depiction that is a bit sketchy. Regardless, it’s not a bad piece but it could’ve been much better.
Rating: Star clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZero
Conclusion: It takes little effort and time to realize the high quality of this, practically, full re-model of Morgana. The concept of blades seems tailor made for Morgana and is clearly suggested instead of evidently splattered all over her. Both her dress and her wings have a complex, absorbing design that results in a wondrous appearance. Moreover, the skirt has the particular quality of showing Morgana’s legs which are appropriately, albeit simply, dressed for the occasion. Blade Mistress Morgana is a fascinating skin that never becomes monotonous thanks to the great execution of an elaborate but appealing concept. Few skins are as good looking as Blade Mistress Morgana and anyone interested in a dark look for the Fallen Angel shouldn’t miss it.

Blackthorn Morgana
Blackthorn Morgana Splash Art Blackthorn Morgana Model
Category: Regular
Price: 1350 RP
Concept: Morgana resembling a dark dryad: her dress and wings made of branches and leaves.
Model: New model for Morgana and new particles for her dark aura and wings: leaves continuously fall down.
Particles: New particles for her abilities and auto-attack.
Animations: New walking and death animations.
Sounds: No new sounds.
Splash Art: This is a piece that puts fine technique to good use and produces a great result. The background is simple but fitting: roots and trunks mesh and confound with Morgana’s own dress and wings to form a continual structure of vegetation. The setting would certainly welcome extra detail as the combination of vegetation can solidify into an indistinguishable brown mess but the overall feel is clear. Besides, Morgana is lavishly decorated in a complex arrangement of tendrils and leaves. The lines of Morgana’s face, her lean hairstyle and provocative pose make her look attractive and display an interesting contrast to the haunting surroundings.
The appealing portrayal and suggestive background add up and combine to make the piece more than just a pose: Morgana could very well be part of the forest; as a dryad should. In the presence of such a great piece there isn’t much to say but there is much to admire. Blackthorn Morgana is a wonderful, albeit imperfect, splash art that is a pleasure to behold; it goes without saying that it stands high among the best League of Legends’ splash arts.
Rating: Star clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZero
Conclusion: Blackthorn Morgana is a captivating skin fruit of a creative concept and an artful execution. The bark dress has a design that is both attractive yet menacing. The plant-like wings join Morgana’s lovely face, delicate hairstyle and lean body to create a dichotomy much like a rose: beautiful and dangerous. The new particle effects for her abilities are well moulded with constant presence of thorns; even if the classic base is quite evident. Special mention deserves the leaves that constantly fall from her wings and that accompany her abilities. The leaves are a sublime addition that complete the concept and provide an incredible visual consistency and appeal. No one with an interest in Morgana should ignore Blackthorn Morgana, its wonderful style is an incredibly satisfying match for the Fallen Angel. The price is certainly high but the skin is so captivating that at the very least deserves to be taken into consideration.

Ghost Bride Morgana
Ghost Bride Morgana Splash Art Ghost Bride Morgana Model
Category: Regular
Price: 975 RP
Concept: Morgana embraces the legend of La Llorona.
Model: New model for Morgana and new particles for her dark aura.
Particles: New particles for her wings, auto-attack and abilities.
Animations: New recall animation.
Sounds: New sound for Dark Binding, Tormented Soil, Soul Shackles and her recall.
Splash Art: In a desolate and antique cathedral a beautiful woman lays in a flight of stairs. She’s inviting but you can tell from her irritated eyes and wet cheeks that there isn’t happiness in her visage. Her exquisite dress, torn in places, frames a fine silhouette that challenges the unnatural freshness of the flowers she holds. The Moon doesn’t shine through the stained glass window behind her yet there is a cold light that bathes her nonetheless. Such incongruence allows you to take a step back from her glowing hand and notice the stone reapers chained to her back. You turn in a stupor and try to find the door with the dim help of a few candles. Your mind is still set on the delicate folds of her wedding dress, the perfection of her skin and the intense calm of her face. You push the door open but are unable to move forward. Behind you, a ghostly chain ties your body to hers. You are now lost to La Llorona and there is no hope to be had.

Conclusion: Ghost Bride Morgana is a skin with a unique aesthetic that mixes supernatural elements with terrestrial ones. The result is haunting but not as much as the magnificent splash art would lead one to believe. That’s mainly because even though Morgana is interpreted as a ghost she doesn’t actually seem very ethereal. While she is rather solid the new particles on her wings hardly push the theme in the right direction as they are rather insipid; not to mention that her aura has disappeared. Her bride dress doesn’t help either: it’s elegant and makes her look quite attractive but looks a bit plain. Furthermore, the train flattens Morgana’s svelte silhouette and its pristine white ends up covering too much of her in simplicity.
Fortunately, the supernatural aspect arises in the wings, particles, animations and sounds. The particles struggle to differentiate themselves from the classic ones but they manage for the most part. One clear exception is Tormented Soil which seems barely re-coloured after being transferred as the new classic effect. The sounds, especially, add a necessary and appealing dose of unearthly charm. Thanks to how the different elements work together the skin manages to be more than the sum of its parts and acquires a distinct identity. On the whole, Ghost Bride Morgana is clearly a bride but not ghostly enough. Still, it offers an otherworldly feel that makes up for its terrene essence.

Victorious Morgana
Victorious Morgana Splash Art Victorious Morgana Model
Category: Promotional (awarded to Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master and Challenger ranked players after Season 4)
Price: Not Applicabble
Concept: Morgana wearing an ornamented, armoured dress.
Model: New model for Morgana and new particles for her dark aura.
Particles: New particles for her abilities, auto-attack and recall.
Animations: New recall animation.
Sounds: New recall sounds.
Splash Art: At a cathedral, where the images on the stained glass display Janna and Elise in their victorious glory a light shines in front of a crown. The setting is allusive to Morgana’s regal attire yet it also feels somewhat meaningless. After all, stained glass and crown aside there isn’t much that can be identified.
Fortunately, Morgana’s depiction is fabulous with a delicate mix of elegance and practical use. That is, her vibrant colours and detailed clothing is clearly visible. Whereas, her elegant pose demonstrates her personality and manners.
All in all, it’s quite a good splash art that draws from previous pieces. The background could’ve been more specific about the setting as behind Morgana it’s all a blurry mess. Nevertheless, her portrayal is wonderful and so it’s a great spotlight for her Victorious look.

Conclusion: For a skin that armours Morgana for battle Victorious seems to share the spirit of Blade Mistress. The appearance doesn’t enjoy the elaborate, dark charm that makes Blade Mistress so enthralling. Instead, Victorious is a more refined and gracious aspect that feels more aristocratic and regal. This style gives it a different identity but also makes the appearance more subdued and less iconic.
If the model doesn’t shine then it’s the job of the particles to do so and they surely don’t disappoint. Each of the effects is attractive while conforming to a specific aesthetic. Besides, they present unique and dynamic visuals that tread where other skins never have. The recall, as well, stands out magnificently.
In the sum of all parts, we find that Victorious Morgana provides a good model backed by fantastic particles. This makes it one of Morgana’s best skins and a great reward for ranked players. Sadly, it also becomes a slap in the face for people that don’t want or are unable to play competitively.

Lunar Wraith Morgana
Lunar Wraith Morgana Splash Art Lunar Wraith Morgana Model
Category: Legacy
Price: 975 RP
Concept: Morgana as a lavishly dressed aristocrat.
Model: New model for Morgana and new particles for her aura.
Particles: New particles for her abilities and auto-attack.
Animations: New recall animation.
Sounds: New sounds for Dark Binding and recall.
Splash Art: To one side, a lady stands altered by magic. On the other side, another sits elegant and mysterious. Behind them there are heavy, solid clouds or a low cavern ceiling; who can truly say? A few scaly bodies appear nearby, perhaps ethereal snakes that answer to the ladies presence. Nothing is certain, it’s an oneiric chaos that shows a lot but says little.
The ladies are a different matter, though. Caitlyn is the one that more clearly displays the effect of this dream on her persona. The sharp lines and vivid colours attract the eye but her slender, even weak, frame and are as alien as her right arm and long ears. Her rifle looks fascinating and questions easily gather as to the nature of its mechanisms. She doesn’t seem as familiar as one would expect her to be; in fact, she looks like another person. Of course, all the mystery doesn’t dare to interfere with an unnecessary dose of cleavage.
Sitting opposite her we find Morgana exuding class. Her appearance is as alluring as it is classy but the suggestion made by the naked back is clear. Fur appears dull and waxy but the metal decorations glint above the pervading dimness. Her skirt lights up with the mystic forces around, just like her visible eye, and invigorate the bland aspect of her skin. The blurry happenings around her right arm add to the mystery despite looking unnecessarily drab. While we may not be able to get a full view of her dress, the pose suits her well.
When we add it all together we find a piece that lets two ladies share the spotlight with equal measure. They both appear relevant and attractive and even display a duality between light and shade that ends up benefiting Caitlyn more than Morgana. Regardless, both are captivating and present appealing portrayals before a setting that tries to be so mysterious and dreamlike that more than surreal appears chaotic and undefined. This results in a piece that doesn’t expose the supernatural aspects of the theme as clearly as it should. More oneiric that anything else, both ladies are enticing but struggle to offer more than a good pose in a nice portrayal.
Rating: Star clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZero
Conclusion: Elegant yet gloomy, Lunar Wraith Morgana does look like an Ionian aristocrat with a penchant for elaborate and unusual ornamentation. A closer look only reinforces the idea due to the floating wolf busts and her strange gloves; the latter are completely absent in the splash art. There could be some indication of something supernatural but it’s subtle. The idea that sets is that of a lady with class but a sombre personality.
The particles and sounds also subtly poke in that direction. Dark Binding appears appropriately supernatural but the other abilities are much more measured in that regard. The dim flames around Tormented Soil are a great touch but the rest seems a simple re-colour of the ability. Something identical applies to Black Shield with its suitable aura but familiar look.
Soul Shackles strikes as particularly weak and similar to other dark interpretations of the ultimate; which is anticlimactic. Even her normal aura looks so dim that is too easy to ignore. The recall aims at presenting a feral frenzy of supernatural power but against the predominance of elegance and modicum of mysticism prevalent on the whole of the skin it seems out of place.
All in all, Lunar Wraith Morgana is a skin that appears more elegant and classy than supernatural. There is a well measured undercurrent of magical power that subtly brings the spiritual aspect to the surface. However, it’s never strong enough to make it the main feature of the skin as the name indicates. There’s also too much familiarity in the abilities which added to the extent of the changes prevents the skin from defining a unique identity. Therefore, it’s a skin with a nice style but that doesn’t captivate as it could and should.

Bewitching Morgana
Bewitching Morgana Splash Art Bewitching Morgana Model
Category: Legacy
Price: 975 RP
Concept: Morgana as an elegant witch altered by magic.
Model: New model for Morgana and new particles for her aura.
Particles: New particles for her abilities, auto-attack and recall.
Animations: New recall animation.
Sounds: New sounds for her abilities, auto-attack and recall.
Splash Art: A dark wooden floor suggests a cottage or, perhaps, even a house of where a witch is in full activity. The cauldron boils with vapours of a terrible nature. It contents a viscous liquid that sticks to the paws of a playful and curious cat. Bats unsurprisingly inhabit this dark place where the witch has another, batrachian ingredient ready for the pot. As far as setting is concerned the background is subtle but eloquent. The mood of the piece is well established and it’s a good frame for Morgana. In spite of this, while the pervading darkness is meaningful it also lends the piece an unwelcome homogeneity that does it no favours.
Morgana also suffers from dim colours even though there’s a variety of tones used. The lines are precise and the shading is soft and pleasing. However, there’s little contrast between elements and so details require effort to be noticed. Fortunately, that doesn’t apply to her face which has a distant yet calm expression and least of all to her cleavage. Her bat wings are well presented: visible enough yet without stealing the show; though, between them nothing’s clear. The textures are interesting but the dim and lit parts strike as too different in colour. Her left, claw-like hand dripping magic power is a great touch because it feels different from the usual glow with its liquid nature. There are some strangle sparks of varied size which are an interesting complement; still, a couple are unfittingly large. The light emitted from her hand reflects on her body but it seems unevenly distributed. That is, it reaches some areas and others not, either near or far, without proper respect for physics. It’s nothing major but it’s a subtle element that is noticeable. Other minor problems arise like the fuzzy, almost diffuse, look of the cat; even though the nearby cauldron looks quite good. Also, the sketchy, waxy hair stands out among the otherwise sharp depiction. The darker areas also hide too many details so that her hat barely displays its partially visible eye and her skirt is relegated to a minor, sometimes diffuse apparition; even if the potion right over it is crystal clear. Some of these problems are a consequence of a pose that intends to show her working on her witchcraft while at the same time striking a dramatic pose.
All things considered, this is a great splash art with ample quality. It’s an attractive portrayal of Morgana amidst a suitable setting with some nice details to show. There are problems in both background and foreground with the worst being the intense darkness that homogenizes colours so much. The lack of contrast conceals elements and details obscuring their relevance. The splash art manages to overcome such problems with its sheer charm but they can’t be ignored.
Rating: Star clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZero
Conclusion: Captivating and elegant Bewitching Morgana has the air of an aristocratic witch. The classy and elaborate dress shows golden highlights and a multilayered design. The stylish dress is crowned by a hat with an all-seeing eye and accompanied by bat wings which match the dress colours and are also decorated in gold. There’s a an appealing cartoony vein running through the skin as the large cuffs, vivid hair and comical hat indicate; it’s also perceivable in the overall design. Still, that doesn’t prevent the display of ample cleavage. Although it’s fitting for the 17th century style of the dress it’s also conventional. The potion and bag hanging from the waist are a practical touch but the vibrant red hair seems too exaggerated. The aura around Morgana is also nicely redesigned to resemble a bubbling fluid as if she melted the ground with her steps; an echo of her cauldron concoctions.
The particles aren’t particularly innovative but they are attractive. In all cases, they are an adaptation of the classic style but with a dark blue finished with golden highlights; just like her dress. There’s also the addition of bats for all of her abilities. The flowing darkness in addition to the flying bats makes the abilities dynamic and appealing though they remain quite familiar. The new sounds have a haunting feel that strikes as similar to the classic sounds. The feel is a bit less magical and more eerie but the overall resemblance is unavoidable. The new recall is an iconic activity for a witch and certainly rounds the skin flawlessly.
All things considered, Bewitching Morgana is an attractive skin with quite an appealing and suitable new model but particles and sounds that remind too much of the classic incarnation. Even though the style is different and the bats are nice the base is too evident. Just as the recall rounds the skin, the overall aesthetic is accomplished and fully captures the witchcraft approach of Bewitching Morgana. Fans of the Fallen Angel will find it an enchanting proposition.

Conclusion

Morgana’s skins show a variety of approaches to outfit her: either drawing from light or dark influences. The recommended skin is Blade Mistress Morgana with its fascinating bladed look. It not only fits the Fallen Angel perfectly but it also coats her with an extra layer of appeal. Fans of Morgana shouldn’t miss this fantastic look.

A nice alternative, also worth recommending, is Ghost Bride Morgana with its haunting nuptial style. She may not seem obviously ghastly and ethereal at a glance. However, once her spells come into play she reveals all her appeal. The theme could’ve been laid better but still, Ghost Bride Morgana is a very nice choice.

Another great option would be Blackthorn Morgana with its fantastic style marked by a sinister floral theme. It sure is an attractive look but the price isn’t as enticing. Morgana’s fans may be able to be captivated by it despite this obstacle but for most the best option would be to wait for a sale.

Lunar Wraith Morgana tries to compete with its measured features but doesn’t always succeed. The elegant ornamentation and classy array of magic present an appealing theme. Nonetheless, the pervading supernatural aspect is never as strong as it probably should be. If we add abilities that look too similar to the classic ones then the scope of the changes becomes an obstacle to enjoy the skin’s subtle merits.

Bewitching Morgana offers a haunting style that is certainly attractive. The model is elegant and charming and while the same can be said about particles and sounds they have more than a passing resemble to their classic counterparts. Regardless, the result is particularly captivating so fans are sure to find it a great option.

It’s impossible not to mention Victorious Morgana with its nice model and wonderful particles. For ranked players it’s a very fine reward that puts at their disposal one of Morgana’s best looks. Unfortunately, casual players can only look from the outside as this skin is not for them.

For less dusky options, Sinful Succulence Morgana is the best choice. Although, the changes aren’t as prominent it incorporates a neat, revealing concept about Morgana. Finally, Exiled Morgana is a skin that doesn’t justify its price: in concept it’s nice but in practice it’s overpriced.

91 Responses to “League of Legends: Morgana Skins’ Review”

  1. I think it’s interesting that all of the skins I bought were rated five stars on this website: frost queen Janna, guqin Sona, and blackthorn Morgana. I bought the skins before looking at these reviews, which means that you and I have similar opinions on which skins are the best. πŸ™‚

  2. Hi Zero, pricing of skins here is different from pricing of skins in the NA server. If Exiled Morgana let’s say it only costs 390 RP what will you rate it?

    • Exiled Morgana suffers from an inconsistent and limited execution as it combines yellow and blue particles and delivers a mere re-texture. However, at 390 RP that can be forgiven, to an extent, so that it could probably climb to three stars. The problem is that the concept isn’t bad but the implementation is rather superficial and timid.

Regardless, if you really like it then at 390 RP it would seem an acceptable purchase. Still, consider whether it would be better to save some RP and get one of her other skins as they are much more satisfying.

  3. You should hurry or start(idk) to make ghost bridge morgana :D. I can’t wait.

  4. Unless it has been patched in the last 24 hours. The expected change to Ghost Bride’s ‘Binding has been reverted and it uses the classic model. I can’t say the death animation is particularly noticeable either.

Other than that the review is accurate. Good job again ^^

    • Thanks, we weren’t aware that Dark Binding was made to use the classic particles; it would surely be a disappointment. We agree that the death animation is nothing striking but it’s different from the classic one so, at least, deserves a mention. We’ll give the skin another look and update it.

Glad that you like the review, it’s a pleasure.

  5. about ghost bride morgana and black thorn one
which one is better if they are at the same price as server that i play don’t increase the price of the skin
so i just want to know your opinion

    • Both skins are rather nice however Blackthorn Morgana is more visually impressive while Ghost Bride Morgana has more attractive sounds. We would advice you to choose based on the concept and looks that you like the most as they are really good skins.

Regardless, Blackthorn Morgana seems more consistent in the implementation of its theme. Ghost Bride Morgana is also nice but without the new sounds the skin isn’t very convincing.

Still, you may consider waiting for the skins to go on sale and purchasing them at half their usual price. That would be a possibility if you find it too hard to decide.

  6. Shouldn’t it be added in the Blackthorn skin’s “Animations” section that she has a new walking animation? It is clearly different from her other skins.

    • Yes it should, sorry for the oversight.

      • I would also like to ask, if Blackthorn Morgana is on sale and costs 675 RP, would it deserve 5 stars?

        • Well, we do consider whether skins can go on sale but, without doubt, the reduced price makes Blackthorn Morgana a much better choice. Take into consideration that her other skins can also be discounted so, with patience, they compete in equal terms.

  7. Huh?
Why is the prices in NA sever so high @@
In Vietnam Sever, Exiled Morgana cost 100RP LOL =____=
And the most expensive skin we have is Pulsefire Ezreal, which cost 799 RP

    • Riot states that it adapts prices according to the region so some prices will be higher than others depending on geographical location.

  8. Hi Zero, I really like your reviews. I was thinking about getting Blackthorn Morgana but I agree the price is a bit high so I was thinking about waiting for it to go on sale, but I think it was on sale on october, so chances are it won’t be again for a while. Which one of Morgana’s skins do you think is most likely to be on sale again? Thanks a lot!

    • Glad that you find them useful.

Indeed, Blackthorn Morgana was on sale between the 1st and 4th of October; also Ghost Bride still has a long way to go until it’s discounted. Additionally, by the end of July Blade Mistress was on sale and on March Sinful Succulence; on February, Exiled but we wouldn’t recommend that skin.

Therefore, things don’t look good for one of Morgana’s skins to go on sale. The most probable are the ones that have been least recently discounted. Sinful Succulence could be a possibility as a few skins that were discounted early in 2013 are returning to sales.

As always, take this information as a rough guide because sales are unpredictable and you may find all kinds of skins being discounted.

  9. which is the best skin for morgana .?? I like sinful but no particles change

    • Blackthorn Morgana is the most impressive but also the most expensive as well. If you want new particles and a reasonable price then Ghost Bride is a great option. That’s not to say that Sinful Succulence or Blade Mistress aren’t nice; the latter is particularly fascinating. However, they only provide model changes.

  10. Ghost Bride Morgana is a nice skin. But its a shame the Black sheild is still purple even though everything else is light blue…

  11. amazing review!

i’m deciding to buy either blackthorn or ghost bride. I like them both equally. but I can only afford 1 though so i’ll buy which one goes for sale first.

    • Thanks, glad that you like it.

Sounds reasonable and in the meantime you can save to get the other; just an idea. Both are nice skins and a sale certainly helps a lot.

  12. It says Ghostbride Morgana has a new death animation? I just checked and it is exactly the same as her classic.

    • We just checked in-game and you’re right there doesn’t seem to be any difference. We don’t know what happened there but we have to fix the review, thanks.

  13. The Victorious Morgana splash art just came out tonight, and I am excited to hear your thoughts so far on the skin, if possible.

    • Victorious Morgana looks quite good. The model isn’t fantastic but is finely done. The particles tough are quite outstanding, probably the best out of all of her skins. It seems like ranked players are out for a treat while all the rest are left out in the cold.

  14. Hey Zero, I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate all of the hard work you go through while creating all of these reviews and I hope it isn’t too exhausting.

I’d also like to ask whether you plan on reviewing Victorious Morgana. I’m curious to see whether you share my opinion on it (the new particles are pretty and elegant but the Black Shield seems too gaudy and the wings/banners look really strange to me).

Also, what are your thoughts on Blood Moon Kalista? Assuming it doesn’t undergo any changes would you say it’s well-executed and/or worth buying?

Also I realise that you’ll have a lot of work when patch 4.20 rolls around with all the new skins that are currently on the PBE so please make sure you don’t overwork yourself/yourselves.

    • Thanks for the kind words. Big releases do take quite a bit of work but its worthwhile to provide people with useful information.

We certainly will review Victorious Morgana once she’s released. We agree that the model isn’t as great as it could be yet the particles seem quite good. They manage to be eye-catching and fitting. Black Shield could be a little too colourful but for a regal skin it seems suitable.

Blood Moon Kalista looks quite nice. The red particles are eye-catching and the Ionian armour, inspired on the Japanese style, is an interesting and fitting angle.

We’ll see what we can do with all the work we have postponed and upcoming. Thanks for your concern, we’ll try to do things one at a time and do them right.

  15. Zero, have you considered doing reviews on ward skins?

    • We have, it’s something to consider because they aren’t that cheap to start with. They also don’t add as much nor are as complex as a skin so a review wouldn’t be particularly analytical. We’ll have to think about it and give wards a good thorough look to determine if a review would be of use.

      • I remember reading a comment by one of Riot staff members saying that they’d like to change how wards are viewed in store because it doesn’t show some of the features they have, like an animation when a ward is first deployed. I like your reviews because besides your opinion I can be informed on everything a skin changes. This is most helpful with legendary and ultimate skins that have an immense amount of changes. I can always look up the skins on youtube or a friend’s account, but it’s not the same. For example, I remember watching Chosen Master Yi on youtube, and not noticing the new sound effects of the auto attacks. Without your review, I wouldn’t have found out about it. My suggestion to you Zero: instead of doing a full review, would you consider doing a run-down of what the ward skin has to offer?

        • That seems reasonable. We’ll take a look at the wards and see what we can do. Perhaps there could be a single article that includes all the wards. We’ll see, maybe most ward skins have the same characteristics so there wouldn’t be much to say. We’ll have to give wards a closer look.

If we recall, we were told about Chosen Master Yi’s new auto-attack sounds in a comment. So that goes to show how important feedback is and we really appreciate it. Thanks for the ideas.

  16. Victorious Morgana review! I think it’s her best skin so far so I’m quite interested in seeing your thoughts on it xD

  17. You seem to have missed the new recall sounds for Victorious Morgana too. You’re welcome.

  18. I have a suggestion. I think Blade Mistress Morgana should have a mention of her bladed wings in the Concept section of the skin, considering her other skins excluding Victorious and Ghost Bride have some mentions of them. I don’t think mentioning Victorious Morgana having fabric wings feels very appropriate, even if it is true.

    • We checked the concepts and we tend to mention her wings according to how necessary it is to have a brief yet useful description. In the case of Blade Mistress we consider the wings covered in metal as part of the armour she’s wearing. In the case of model changes we mention wings when there’re new particles added to them like for Blackthorn.

We don’t know if the descriptions are as clear as they could be but they seem reasonable. If you have anything more specific in mind we’d be grateful to know about it.

  19. Hello Zero, I completely agree with everything you’ve said. I also thought Blackthorn Morgana’s splash art was one of the best, but IMO the in-game model was a let down. It didn’t have that deep red in the dress, the face didn’t have that nice composition, the skin didn’t have that pale beauty and the hair didn’t have that rich violet color. I thought they could have at least made the basic attack that blood red color she wields in the splash, and add a recall involving the roots or something.

Moving on, you highly regarded Victorious Morgana, I also do, and was wondering if you could tell me whether the Victorious skins will be acquirable in the future. The research I’ve done all point to only future Victorious skins, but I wanted to hear it from you.

Also, I wanted to point out that Exiled Morgana is now a legacy skin.

Thank you Zero for this wonderful site that has made me decide, and will hopefully continue to decide on the best skins.

    • Thanks for the kind words.

Indeed, Blackthorn Morgana is a nice skin but it does have a few details that prevent it from being a better fit at 1350 RP. It’s a nice skins but as you mention the implementation could’ve and should’ve been better if the price is to be so high.

Victorious Morgana is quite a good skin but, sadly, it’s only available to ranked players that got Gold or more in Season 4. For that Riot says they actually only really reward ranked players. As far as we know, the Victorious skin are reserved for ranked players and won’t be made available in any other way.

They could change their mind, they’ve done so several times about many things; even unquestionable ones. However, that’s just guesswork.

Thanks for the notice, we’ve updated Exiled Morgana’s category.

      • Yes, only ranked players. You see, I only discovered League of Legends in December last year, and because of this, I’ve missed out on several opportunities. Even if I reached gold this season, I can only get the new Victorious skin, not previous ones like Morgana and Elise.

Also, I wanted to ask whether you know if and when Exile will return. Although given one star, and deservingly so, I still think it’s an attractive skin and I main Morgana. I couldn’t find any results online. Thank you!

        • Sadly, newer players can be left out in certain aspects as well as casual players. As League of Legends is firmly based on Summoner’s Rift with clear intentions of becoming a competitive sport things aren’t bound to change.

Hopefully, you’ll still be able to catch some returning legacy skins. Unfortunately, when it comes to promotional or exclusive skins everyone is out of luck.

Speaking of which, Exiled Morgana should be back a the yearly Legacy Vault Sale which often happens at the end of each year. Not only will the skin return but there also should be a sale as well. If you really want it then that’ll be the best option to catch it.

It’s possible that it could make a surprise appearance during the year in a bundle or special sale. However, that’s something rather unusual.

  20. At what standard of quality do you believe a skin like victorious morgana should be at?

    • As a reward for players a skin should be as good as it can possibly be. Just because it’s not a purchasable product doesn’t mean that it’s an excuse to provide a substandard skin. Victorious Morgana is an example of a reward skin that is satisfying to get; you can perfectly prefer it to her regular alternatives.

The issue with reward skins is that the conditions to acquire them sometimes alienate sections of the player base. It’s understandable that Riot wants to encourage and reward competitive players. However, the focus on e-sports have let casual players trailing behind. Now the impression one gets is that centre of League of Legends is Ranked Summoner’s Rift; the rest is secondary.

That’s why a casual player may see Victorious Morgana and find it a great skin that they like. Sadly, it’s completely out of their reach; especially if they prefer Dominion or ARAM. For example, if casual players did get something as well then it’ll be a matter of having equally satisfying rewards for both kinds of players. Unfortunately, League of Legends seems set on being an e-sport but at the cost of forgetting to be a fun game.

  21. Do the visual effect update of morgana change any of the ratings of the affected skins?

    • Not really, as they all were updated. Some skins would’ve welcomed some extra work, like the oldest ones, but it seems that the status quo isn’t affected.

  22. If Exiled Morgana had been given properly fitting particles for her abilities, like a 975 skin should, what rating do you think the skin would deserve? I feel that the skin is actually quite beautiful and would be my favorite Morgana skin had the particles necessary to bring the whole concept to life not been left out.

    • The model would still remain a re-texture so, with good particles, it could be an acceptable, three stars skin. If the model were also changed to better recreate her former angelic aspect then more stars could be added. Perhaps the biggest problem the skin has is that the concept is quite interesting but the execution is a letdown.

  23. While I do agree with most of what is written, in my humble opinion, I believe that Blade mistress Morgana is slightly overrated in this review. I do appreciate the idea, concept and model of the skin very much but I cannot unnotice that you haven’t really pointed out how rather disappointing the actual splash art is: the non exsistant background could indeed do wonders for expressing Morgana’s features, but then again the whole body is rather childlishly depicted (in contrast with the skin’s concept of Morgana being dominant and may I say dangerous and all that goes with what would one think of when imagining the words ‘blade mistress’). The lightning is quite good and deliveres a certain ambient, but then again the face is badly drawn along with armor of lazily executed metal textures and overall sketchiness which don’t make this Morgana skin as believable. I repeat, I do not state that it’s bad skin, far from it, for it is hard to put that much effort in all the little details required in this piece, though there are those few things worth mentioning. Sorry for the long post, but I think that the rating for this skin is unfair due to such a low rating for blackthorn one which also has some flaws considering the in game model, but it makes it up with decent splash. Now, I do not own neither of the skins, however I noticed that you go in depth with the review so I’d just like you to consider this. Thank you for your time. I really appreciate what you’ve done so far and your effort sure helped many of us when deciding which skin to purchase next! πŸ™‚

    • We understand your point of view but we separate the review of the actual skin, in-game, from that of the splash art. In our opinion the skin is what you actually use in the battlefield and the splash art only serves as a presentation card. Such card should be well done but we don’t think that it can excuse or compensate for a disappointing skin and viceversa. Therefore, a skin should be considered on the merits of the results in-game and not on the work necessary to make it nor the conceptual ideation.

With regards to Blade Mistress Morgana the splash art shows its age nowadays and the review is rather old. We’ll give a look at the splash arts and update the splash arts’ reviews as necessary. Currently, we expect more than a monochromatic splash art.

With regards to the skin itself, we do think that for its price it offers a rather nice and attractive model that justifies its price reasonably well. There’s potential for more, even at its price, but manages to convey the Blade Mistress idea well.

Blackthorn Morgana is a more expensive skin and we don’t think it justifies its expensive price. It was a great option at 975 RP but at 1350 RP the exectution simply doesn’t do enough. The splash art isn’t perfect either but we think that the central point of the skin is what you use in-game.

We appreciate the time you took to offer your opinion. We’ll update the splash art sections, it’s been quite some time since we reviewed some of these skins and things have changed.

      • Good points you have there. The in game models are indeed the most important part of the skin and I did fail to include the fact that you considered the price as well. Thank you!

  24. I just noticed you pointed out new sounds for all of Lunar Wraith Morgana’s abilities and her basic attacks too. I seem to fail to see any new sounds for her E and R, and barely any change for the basic attacks and W. Could you point them out for me please? They must be unbelievably subtle changes for me not to notice even after watching video comparisons several times.

    • You’re right, we can’t seem to notice a clear difference except for Dark Binding. We aren’t sure what happened. We might’ve heard a slight change accross the abilities. We’ll have to give the skin another look as being a legacy skin it could affect the rating. In comparison to Ghost Bride it doesn’t seem to do much more and while it’s nice it’s still not that different from Classic. Thanks for the notice.

      • Oh, no problem. I see this actually removed a star from the skin. I think the only thing Lunar Wraith Morgana does that tops Ghost Bride Morgana is the model, mainly the dress. It is her only skin where her dress is so slim. I actually have a theory: When Morgana finally gets a visual update, they might slim down her dresses across all skins, making Lunar Wraith even less appealing, which would be sad for those who bought the skin, but I am sure it will retain appeal.
I do hope one day my corrections/suggestions will change a skin rating for the better.

        • Actually, it wasn’t just the sounds that made the skin lose a star. We simply reviewed the skin again and while we ended up with similar conclusions we realised that what we wrote had little in common with the actual rating. Lunar Wraith Morgana had four stars yet we constantly mentioned how the skin was nice but not great. It was a simple matter of accepting that we made a mistake with the rating. The conclusion was right, it’s an appealing skin but it’s not, on the whole, better than other skins at 975 RP; especially being a legacy skin.

We do appreciate the correction because what really matters is that the reviews are as accurate and useful as possible. Whether that means that a rating has to go up or down or that we made, yet another, mistake is inconsequential. The objective is clear: the reviews have to be as helpful as they can be. With that in mind, we don’t discard that corrections can end up making a skin get a better rating. It did happen with PROJECT: Yasuo, a skin for which we didn’t initially notice all its little extra touches.

The correction also allowed us to give another look at Lunar Wraith Caitlyn and more accurately list the actual new sounds. It’s a progressive effort in the pursuit of accuracy and improvement of the reviews. Sometimes rating get better and other times worse, as things change and we change ourselves so do our views on them.

  25. Blade mistress’ splash art was updated. πŸ™‚

    • Sorry and sinful succulence’s was. I thought something was different lol

    • We are aware of the massive splash art update. It’ll take a while to do all the new splash reviews but we’ll update everything eventually. We are progressively updating everything.

  26. Hey there and thanks for the hard work! πŸ˜€ Any opinions about Morgana’s chroma pack?

    • Not at all, we hope it’s useful.

Morgana’s Haunt base chroma pack, to give it the official name, looks rather good for a trio of re-colours. The aim isn’t ambitious but the different schemes are distinct enough. It’s a matter of taste as there’re worse skins but also much better for the Fallen Angel. At its price, there’s no competition though so it’s a valid choice for Morgana. It’s certainly far from what the best skins deliver yet, taken for what it is, it’s good enough.

  27. Will you ever do Chroma reviews?

    • Yes, we will. We have it in our to-do list. We’ll try to get to them as soon as we possible once we find out how to correctly assess chromas for paid skins. At least, we’ll start with the chromas for base skins as soon as we are able to, though.

      • Not trying to be rude but I think it would be great by September 8th since that is the last day chromas will be on sale for ip for a while. A review from you is normally very good so chroma reviews would help people make better decisions when buying with ip.

  28. Hi Zero.

I have a question about Lunar wraith Morgana. Since it is a lunar revel skin, are there aby chances it will be back on stores this Chinese New Year?

    • It should definitely return for this Lunar Revel. Chances are that things will be quite similar to the Snowdown Showdown event. Legacy skins ought to return as well as yearly bundles with a little discount and a few other extras like icons and such.

      • Thanks Zero, I really want to know if it will be back on stores or just enjoy Blade Mistress that I already own. I really like the aristocratic feel the Lunar Wraith skins show, but I do agree that it does’nt really show much the super natural aspect but for me, it’s all the elegance that really matters.

The reviews you make is very useful.

        Happy 2017!

        • Glad that you like the reviews and happy 2017 for you too.

With regards to Lunar Wraith Morgana we can agree that the Fallen Angel’s elegance is a relevant aspect of her personality. That helps the skin stay appealing so that with some extra work on the supernatural aspect it would be great. As it stands, it’s a good skin with much to like but inneffective; especially in light of the many great alternatives that Morgana has.

  29. Hey Zero,

Do you know when Bewitching Morgana is out?
I thought it’s for Halloween but I’m not sure.
I’m also confused because it’s in the ‘Doom Bots’ (I’m jealous of a bot help what’s wrong with me)

    • You are right, Bewitching Morgana is a Harrowing/Halloween skin so it’ll be available around the 31st of October. It’s a nice skin so it’s understandable that the bot brings some conflicting feelings.

  30. I thinking but buy bewitching Morgana or should i buy ghost bride one what do u suggest?

    • Bewitching Morgana is more playful while Ghost Bride is more tragic in style. Both are great skins and it’s a matter of taste which one you like the most. Both are well done and neither should disappoint. Ghost Bride Morgana has the advantage of not being a legacy skin so it can go no sale for half price. Bewitching can only be bought discounted in a bundle; at least for now. That’s something that can tip the scales in Ghost Bride’s favour.

      • Thanks Zero for a quick reply i always loved your review of skins when ever i go buy skins i firstly come to your site here and thanks again it really helped me to make my decision.

  31. Hey there Zero, I was wondering when will Lunar Wraith Morgana be available again? Im a big fan of her and wishes to add more of her skins in my collection.

I missed the Lunar event this year so I wasn’t able to get her Lunar skin. I’m considering Bewitching Morgana too, but I find that the particles are far too close with classic basically too much “Purple”. I’ve already owned Ghostbride, Blade Mistress and her best skin Black Thorn all through your reviews.

Would you recommend Bewitching over Lunar Wraith? Personally I’m more into the latter but seeing I won’t be able to get it until next year, would you recommend purchasing Bewitching for now as they are both limited/legacy and I believe eventually I would own all her skins just because I love Morgana so much lol (except for Victorious πŸ™ of course).

    Thanks in advance

    • Lunar Wraith Morgana is a skin tied to Lunar Revel so it’ll be available around the next Lunar New Year: the 5th of February, 2019.

We don’t recommend substitutes. If you like Lunar Wraith Morgana then try to get that skin. No other skin will deliver exactly what it can. If you do have an interest in Bewitching because you like what the skin offers, that’s another thing. There are some things to like in Bewitching but we agree taht the particles are a bit too close to Classic. Lunar Wraith Morgana is uneven but it does have some nice features. Still, it’s a different skin to Bewitching.

If you like Morgana a lot then we would recommend buying Bewitching if you actually like to play Bewitching, not as a substitute. If you see yourself playing and enjoying all of Morgana’s skins then no reason to wait if it’s something you will do anyway; unless there’s a proper reason to wait. However, if your objective is Lunar Wraith, then centre on that.

  32. Hi Zero, are you prepare to update all morg skins, haha just joking. Do you think they will preserve different dead and walking animation? And what do you think in general about the VU. TΓΊ πŸ™‚

    • We haven’t seen much but we have noticed the usual homogeneity that plagues visual upgrades. While the technical merits of the base skin have improved the classic base is more noticeable across skins. We hope that the result is an improvement as Morgana previously had a particle update which based all skins, including Classic, off of Blackthorn’s; which was disappointing.

  33. Are you Guys going to update the skins on her and kayle for their reworks soon? Because today they Showed all the affects for the skins as well as a the splash arts.

    • Riot has only released splash arts for the visual upgrade. They have long stopped providing images for particles and even new models when a visual upgrade comes. Regardless, we have skimmed over the visual upgrade to see what’s it all about. It may take a while as we have two champions upgrades with quite a few skins but we are certainly going to update when we are able.

  34. Hey! When are you going to release the updates for Morgana and Kayle?

    • There are a lot of skins to check and we don’t have much time recently. Still, we are looking and checking what we can when possible. We will update and as soon as possible but we don’t know exactly when.
